I saw the doctor the other day and asked him about a medication I used to be on that helped me lose upwards of 80 lbs. So he subscribed a starting dose of Topamax (Topiramate). He said that when he sees me again in six weeks he may increase the medication, but wouldn't increase it beyond that. He said that Topamax loses it's ability to have any weight loss side effects if the dosage is too high. By the way, if you area unfamiliar with Topamax it is used for depression, bipolar, and migraines, and I believe Multiple Sclerosis, but I'm not sure on that one. The side effect that makes it so popular is that, unlike most medications, it causes weight loss instead of gain.
I also took myself off of my Lyrica, which is a big weight gaining medication. Now I am no longer on any weight gaining medication. I have stopped drinking colas, cut down on my caffeine consumption, drank more water, taken more vitamins, and started slowly exercising.
I am having a hard time being able to buy food that is healthy. We don't get to decide what they give up at food commodities. We just have to take what they give us. One week we ate biscuits twice a day because flour was about the only thing we had in the house and we didn't have any money for food. When we ran out of flour I cried. It is a humbling experience to have to eat food that came from a soup kitchen, even though I didn't physically go there myself.
We have vitamins we got from commodities (government issued food for those at poverty level and below) and I've been taking them. I want to get some Fish Oil tablets for Cholesterol, baby Aspirin to keep from getting a (could be) second mini-stroke, and of course Folic Acid because I want to have children in the next couple of years with my DH.
So for the next week (until January 1st) I want to work on writing down what I eat and if I exercise each day. Then in January I'll set a January goal, then a February goal at the beginning of February, and a March at the beginning of March,...and so on.
So my goal for this last week of December 2010 is:
Daily list food intake and what, if any, exercise I do that day.
